About Our School
CICS Bucktown, located in one of Chicago’s most culturally-rich communities, is a premier inner-city charter school that has made dramatic gains over the past decade in reading, math, and science. Recognized for growth on the Illinois State Achievement Test (ISAT), CICS Bucktown was also named an “exceptional” school by the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA).

The mission at CICS Bucktown is to inspire and support each child’s physical, social, emotional, and academic learning for success at school and beyond using a personalized learning approach.

Christy Krier graduated from Concordia University with a B.A. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Math before receiving her Master of Arts in School Leadership, also from Concordia University. Ms. Krier began her career teaching middle school in Rogers Park where she later became the Principal and Director of the Childcare Center.

Ms. Krier had a strong desire to return to the classroom full time and became a fifth grade teacher at CICS Bucktown, where she taught reading, math and science. She returned to administration when she became the upper grade team leader in 2009. During that time she created the Middle School model for grades 6-8. Ms. Krier became the Director of CICS Bucktown in 2011 where she continues to use her instructional and administrative experiences to uphold and grow the tradition of excellence at CICS Bucktown.
